Other Types of Car Mounts

Car mounts can help you organize automobile accessories like DVD players, navigation systems, and iPods. Some of the most common types of car mounts include cup holder mounds and dashboard mounts. There are several other types of car mounts that you can get for different items in your car. Depending on what car you are driving and what you need to mount, these other mounts may be exactly what you need. You can use these mounts to create a portable work environment, collect road trash, mount accessories to your motorcycle, and more.

Windshield Mounts

Windshield mounts primarily attach to the windshield with suction cups. Several devices can be mounted with a windshield car mount, including GPS systems, radar detectors, PDAs, and satellite radios. Devices such as satellite radios and GPS navigation systems work quite well with windshield mounts, as these items need a clear view of the sky to work. Radar detectors also work well with windshield mounts. The biggest drawback to using a windshield mount is that it can leave a (washable) mark on the windshield; thieves sometimes see the mark and may believe that the owner left a navigation system inside, and may want to break into the car as a result. These mounts are portable.

Seat Mounts

Seat mounts can be used to mount several different items. One type of seat mount holds a tray that acts as a portable workdesk for a back seat passenger. They can place a laptop computer, food, reading materials, or a drink on it. Some of these seat mounts can also mount on the steering wheel, to be used as a portable desk when the car is not being driven. Another kind of seat mount will hold a trash can. Although it depends on the model, they can generally hold about two gallons of trash.

Motorcycle Mount

Driving a motorcycle doesn't mean that you can't use the most popular automobile accessories. Motorcycle mounts are available for GPS navigation systems, iPods, cellular phones, video cameras, radios, and radar detectors. You can also get a mount to hold a drink holder. These mounts are not portable like most automobile mounts; they are heavy duty in order to keep the accessories in place while driving. Some of these mounts come with a waterproof case; with others, you should only use your accessories in good weather. Most motorcycle mounts attach to the handlebars, and require a small amount of tool usage to install.
