Mounting DVD Players
Years ago, "are we there yet?" seemed to be a child's refrain on long car trips. Kids easily get bored. While kids might still be in a hurry to get where they're going, they don't have to be as bored. Today, many cars come with built-in DVD players that allow children (and adult passengers) to watch movies while riding in the back seat. If your car didn't come with a built-in DVD player, there is still a way to allow passengers to watch movies: mount your own DVD player. DVD car mounts allow you to install a portable DVD player to almost any car, giving your passengers a more entertaining trip.
How DVD Car Mounts Work
There are a couple of different types of DVD Car mounts. One type of car mount fits over the headrest of the driver or passenger's head rest. These can work well when one person wants to watch a movie. Another DVD mount hooks between the two car headrests. These are more suitable in a car that has more than one row, or when both of the rear passengers want to watch a video. Roof mounted DVD players are also available, but you may need help to install them, and they are not as portable. Some of these mounts only work with certain size DVD players; before purchasing one, make sure that yours will fit your DVD player.
Passenger Head Rest Mounts
DVD car mounts that work on a passenger head rest mount the DVD player behind one seat, and are best suited for when one passenger wants to watch a movie. They work with most standard car headrests, but if you drive a car with an oddly-shaped headrest, they may not work. Some of these mounts attach with nylon straps and Velcro; if you are looking for portability, this may be the best choice. Other mounts attach more permanently; although the DVD player can be removed, the mount stays in place. This may be a better choice if you are planning on using the DVD player from one seat.
Car Mounts Between the Seats
If you have more than one passenger that wants to watch DVDs in the car, you may want to purchase a car mount that secures between the driver and passenger seats. These types of mounts generally work with cars that have adjustable head rests; if your car does not, it may not fit. The DVD mount has a table that goes between the headrests, and the player is strapped to the table. These DVD car mounts are portable, and can be easily switched between cars.
